BE A GOGO SHOPPER
Go Shopping is an effortless way to help ease the pain of HIV/AIDS in Africa. All that it takes is just one extra mouse-click before making your online purchases. It won't cost you anything extra, and you might even save money by visiting our DEALS page.
HOW GOGO SHOPPING WORKS
Many web merchants pay money to websites who sign up as affiliates and then send visitors to their online stores, as long as that person ends up buying something. The cost to you is exactly the same as if you'd gone straight to their sites. For example, if you click on any of the book covers on the right and then buy something fromChapters, we'll receive a commission of 5% of whatever you spend. Westjet will give us 2% and if you click on the American Express logo and then sign up for a free no-fee Amex card, you'd get 100 Airmiles and we'd get $40. We in turn give every penny of whatever we raise to The Stephen Lewis Foundation, a fantastic Canadian charity that works with local grassroots organizations in Africa helping people with AIDS as well as the children they leave behind and the people who look after them, many of whom are grandmothers, or "gogos" in the Zulu dialect. Many more offers are listed on our Shopping section, so before you buy anything online, make sure you go there first and follow our links.

MORE ABOUT THE CAUSE
As HIV/AIDS ravages families and communities in Africa, grandmothers have emerged as the continent's unrecognized heroes. Surrounded by poverty, hunger and desolation, they care for children orphaned by AIDS, sometimes as many as ten to fifteen in one household. These incredibly strong and courageous women bury their own children and become parents again, calling on astonishing reserves of love and emotional resilience. But they do so with almost no support. Sub-Saharan Africa has overwhelming numbers of children orphaned by AIDS — an estimated 13 million, projected to reach 18-20 million by the year 2010. As the death rate accelerates, countries and communities simply cannot cope.
ABOUT THE STEPHEN LEWIS FOUNDATION
Grassroots
projects are the focus of the Stephen Lewis Foundation — providing
resources to small, front-line HIV/AIDS organizations that make
tremendously
effective use of comparatively small amounts of money. The Stephen
Lewis Foundation is dedicated to easing the pain of AIDS in Africa by
providing assistance to women, orphans, grandmothers and organizations
of people living with HIV and AIDS in 14 countries.
They
are deeply committed to applying 90%
of contributions
directly to
their project work in Africa. They work very hard to keep
their administrative costs as low as humanly possible.
